Last night, I left the door to the balcony open. The cool night breeze and the soundtrack of the river flowing through the canyon made it a lovely night – and hard to actually get up and moving. We did however get up and off to the Caminito del Rey.

In 1901, as part of a hydro electric power project Spain built the Caminito del Rey – a pathway that goes for about 3 km with much of it clinging to the gorge walls. This was the pathway workers used to maintain a water tunnel that brought water from a damn upstream to the power station outside the gorge to create a large enough drop to drive the turbines.

The path deteriorated over time (the hand rails were gone and the path had holes) but people still hiked it. In 2014 they rebuilt and repaired it. Now it’s much less dangerous but the views and marvel remain.

After this we managed to get back to the car and started off toward Granada. Along the way we stopped at Burger King (I have not been to one in the US in a while so this may be there) and they had a Pringles Sour Cream and Onion Whopper – may innovation in fast food never stop!

Finally we made it to Granada – we found the place we stayed at for the night. It was great. Finding the parking was a trick because it is on a street you are technically not allowed to drive on. We got checked in and all settled.

We headed over to the Mirador de San Nicolas to watch the sunset reflect off the Alhambra.

It was a beautiful way to start the visit.

We then made our way to dinner at Maniguasas de Comidas. We had been looking at a different place that was booked up and they recommended this. It was quiet and we had a nice meal.

Then off to bed as we got ready to explore the Alhambra tomorrow.
