Touching the Pacific

January 6, 2024

With our first journey successful we decided to embark on another adventure outside the city. This time we ventured to Kamakura.

Made it to the Pacific

The beach was lovely and there were a lot of people surfing.

From there we walked to the Daibutsu statue. It is a giant Buddha statue and was impressive to see.

When then walked along the hiking trail that started near by and took you through woods in Kamakura. We were able to see the ocean from the ridge.

Along the trail we explored side trails and visited some of the shrines that dotted the route.

From there we made it back to the city. As we walked we continued to pass various shrines all with people visiting. Back in the city we ventured to the Tsurugaoka Hachimangū shrine.

Scramble crossing to get to the shrine

After enjoying the Shrine and the scramble crossing, we made our way back to Tokyo to take in the Meji Shrine.

Busy day at the Meji Shrine

Now we tried to be adventurous for dinner. We have been trying to hit an Omakase place and enjoy a nice dinner. We found one that was small and seemed like a good candidate. Given very few places have online reservations, we figured we would take a gamble. Many had been closed for the holidays but this one did not have any notice. We showed up right when they are supposed to open. There was a light in and noise inside…a very positive sign. We gave them a couple of minutes. Then a man exited, turned off the lights, locked the door, and drove off. Apparently they were not open.

We ended up at the takeout Dim Sum place near the hotel.

Side bar. The Hotel Century South Tower where we stayed was great. We are heading out tomorrow and will see what is up next.
